Mountain Carpets and Flooring of Lincolnshire have installed so many fantastic laminate floors over the years, with each one looking stunning. After your nice new laminate floor has been expertly installed and is looking fabulous, you really are going to want to keep it that way. Right?…
The great news is that there are lots of things you can do to make sure your new Mountain floor stays in good condition for many years to come. Even better news is that laminate flooring is relatively low maintenance. Win, win!
Let’s start with some top tips for caring for your laminate flooring.

Laminate care tips
• If you get chewing gum or candle wax on your nice new floor, use ice to harden it and then scrape off with a plastic scraper. Wipe clean after with a lightly damp cloth.
• Use a well-wrung mop to clean the floor with water. Add vinegar to the water to bring the shine back.
• To avoid damage, never push or drag furniture around on laminate flooring.
• Make sure you lift any furniture that needs to be moved.
• Place soft castors under chairs and table legs to prevent scratches and dents. (You can buy these on Amazon)
Laminate cleaning tips

• The most important thing to consider when keeping your laminate flooring clean is that it is not waterproof.
• You can clean most laminate flooring with a solution of vinegar and water – mix one cup of household vinegar with one gallon of warm water.
• A doormat will help keep dirt outside rather than being walked into your home.
• If your laminate flooring is old, it could just be wear and tear that’s making it look dull and sad.
Spillages on laminate flooring
Spilled something on your laminate flooring? Don’t panic!
• Any spills can be dealt with using a damp cloth and the residue wiped up with a dry cloth immediately.
• Do not use a soaking wet mop on laminate flooring; if water soaks through it can get under the layers causing warping. Which means its lifespan will be shorter.
• To keep the floors dirt and dust free, try regularly sweeping with a soft broom or vacuuming with a hard floor attachment

Scratches on laminate flooring
One thing to remember is most laminate flooring is very hard-wearing and copes well with everyday life but the surface can still get scratched. Some laminate flooring comes with added scratch guards – Ask us for more information when you are choosing your new flooring.
Never use a scouring pad or other abrasive implement to clean laminate flooring; this WILL scratch your floor. Remove shoes (where you can) before walking on your laminate. Small stones can get stuck in shoes and scratch your floor. A doormat will also help.
DO
- Vacuum frequently
- Sweep with a soft broom
- Put doormats and rugs by doors
- Keep pets’ nails trimmed
DON’T
- Over wet the laminate
- Use anything abrasive
- Leave puddles to soak in
- Allow it to be subject to direct sunlight
